Today I went to see my surgeon for the second time this week to have fluid drained from one side of my chest. A doctor close to me said this phenomenon of "weeping" is natural after something has been removed. The body is adjusting in its own, healthy way. There is no infection but this process is simply the body's way of readjusting to change. What a perfect metaphor. There is a transition, a shedding, a mourning, a celebration. Nothing is wrong but change requires recalibration. Sometimes that transition is uncomfortable and messy and there is nothing wrong with that. We arrive where we need to be all the same.
