Today there were victories. I was able to get a t-shirt on over my head. I got a solid report from my surgeon. I can start to drive. I can walk down my block. I switched to my amazing @anaonointimates sports bra (Bye bye, polyester! Hello, comfy bamboo!). I cannot jump back in fully. I am not there yet. I still need to exercise caution due to the still “weeping” fluid on one side of my chest. My muscles are still healing and will be for months.
I knew it would take time but somehow when we are in it, we wish the process would speed up. My doctor chuckled and said, “Our bodies heal the same way they did 200 years ago. Our cars go fast and cell phones make everything available in an instant but biology is the same. Healing is a process and it requires patience and focus.” Patience. Focus. These are my words of the week (perhaps months) and surely what we need to remember when making any monumental change in life. These moments require us to stay in the game past the ripping off of the band aid. Patience. Focus.
