I have been asked twice today in interviews where I found the strength to step into living a life that challenges the "normal" societal constructs of how a woman looks. A flood of thoughts came to mind but I'll share two. First off, "normal" is a dangerous word. We are taught to ingest some version of normal to which we are expected to conform. Being the same may be more comfortable for others, but in reality we are all unique and different. Normal is not a box to check. Normal is what makes each of us feel at home in our own body. More importantly, I found the strength to live by what feels best for me, because I know how awful it can be to feel like a stranger in your own life. I did it for years and felt disconnected and numb. So embracing my uniqueness was a life line. I might look "normal" by societal standards in this photo, but this was not my body. #lastcutproject #truth #freedom #notmybody #notmyboobs #implants #explant #explantsurgery #brcasisterhood
